THE HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF FASHION WATCHES IN THE 15TH AND 16TH CENTURIES

Fashion watches have awesome historical development right from the earliest time in the history of the world. Fashion itself is as old as man as men of every era strive to put in their best in making the fashion world a very interesting place. This led to the introduction of various fashion accessories including the fashion watches. Fashion watch inventions began showing up in the early 15th to 16th centuries, that is, within 1400s to 1600s. Here are the main facts that transpired within the period.

The introduction of coiled springs as a source of power gave rise to the development of watch works in the ancient world. Such springs were notably used in Italy in about 1450 AD. In the early 1500 that followed, Peter Henlein, who was a locksmith in Nürnberg, Germany, started producing portable timepieces popularly known at that time in Germany as Nürnberg eggs. This marked the beginning of the invention of fashion watches in the German world which was later to be a home for many fashion watch inventors as time progressed. In the year 1525, a man known as Jacob Zech of Prague invented another wonderful time instrument known as “fusee” or “spiral pulley” to balance the unequalled pull of the coiled spring earlier produced in Italy. In 1660, another great man known as Robert Hooke invented the Spiral Hairspring which gave impetus to the mechanism of what became actual fashion watches later in the course of historical development of the watches. In the final analysis, the history of the fashion watches continued alongside the invention of various other fashion accessories. Many great minds became children already born to affect their world in the later generations that followed.
